How Flower Preservation Works
From wedding day drop-off to the final hand-finished piece, every step is handled with care. The process is slow, detailed and handmade, which means every keepsake is unique.
Timeline Steps
-
Step 1: Inquire About Your Date
Clients inquire with their event date, bouquet inspiration, preferred style and pieces they are interested in.
-
Step 2: Reserve Your Booking
A $250 non-refundable deposit secures the date and is applied toward the final order.
-
Step 3: Drop Off Your Flowers
Flowers should arrive within 24 hours of the event. Drop-off locally at our Canmore studio.
-
Step 4: Drying
Flowers are dried using silica gel to preserve their shape and colour (as much as possible). Drying typically takes 3–6 weeks depending on the flowers.
-
Step 5: Design
After the flowers are dry, the piece is designed based on the client’s original preferences and the artist’s eye. Final designs are artist’s choice.
-
Step 6: Final Invoice
Once the design is confirmed and add-on availability is known, the remaining balance, GST and estimated shipping are invoiced.
-
Step 7: Resin Casting
After payment is received, the flowers are cast in resin through a slow layering process.
-
Step 8: Sanding, Buffing & Finishing
Each piece is sanded, polished, buffed and hand-finished to ensure a smooth and clean finish.
-
Step 9: Shipping or Pickup
Finished pieces can be shipped directly to the client or picked up in Canmore.
What to Expect From Resin Flower Art
Flower preservation is a handmade process using real flowers and resin. Each piece is created with care, but natural variations are part of the artwork and should be expected.
Our goal is to create a thoughtful, well-finished floral keepsake while being transparent about the natural characteristics of preserving real flowers in resin.
-
Bubbles
We take every step to reduce, prevent and remove bubbles throughout the resin process. However, a few small bubbles may still appear in your finished piece. This happens naturally as air releases from the flowers while they are being preserved in resin.
-
Layer Lines
Resin pieces are poured in layers, which means faint layer lines may be visible in the final artwork. This is a normal part of the casting process and cannot be fully avoided.
-
Flower Colour Changes
Flowers naturally change as they dry and are preserved. Pinks, reds and purples may deepen, some lighter colours may soften, and white flowers can turn cream or appear slightly translucent in resin.
-
Bruising & Flower Condition
Bruising, wilting or damage may only become visible after drying or once the flowers are placed in resin. For best results, flowers should be delivered as fresh as possible and kept cool, hydrated and out of direct sunlight before drop-off.
-
Front-Facing Display
Each piece is designed to be viewed from the front, where the flowers are arranged most intentionally. The back of the piece may show stems, layering, texture and the reverse side of the flowers.
-
Handmade Variations
Every Cariad piece is dried, designed, poured, sanded, buffed and finished by hand. Small variations, flower movement, sanding marks, bubbles and layer lines are part of handmade resin preservation and make each piece unique.
-
Resin Care Over Time
We use a high-quality UV-resistant resin, but all resin can gradually change with prolonged exposure to sunlight. To help protect your piece, display it indoors and keep it out of direct sun, high heat and excess moisture.
-
Hanging & Display Safety
Resin pieces can be heavy and should be handled with care, especially if they are being hung or mounted. Please ensure your piece is installed properly using secure hardware suitable for its size and weight. Resin can be fragile if dropped, knocked or improperly supported.
